THE MODERN WOMAN

Cushnie et Ochs is a label that I've only recently become acquainted with, thanks to NYFW, although 'acquainted' probably does not do it justice. I fell in love with the label the moment I saw the gorgeous white maxi dress in the first picture below.

Obviously, the title of this post is quite an assertion to make but it's exactly what I feel this collection epitomises, 'the modern woman' - sleek, sexy and strong. While I'd say Cushnie et Ochs' Spring collection is more formal and feminine than the designs of my fashion god, Alexander Wang, it definitely echoes the same kind of badass vibe with touches of sheer panelling and leather. Kind of a new take on conservative styles and lengths but definitely not boring (unless you consider bare midriffs and thigh-high splits yawn-inducing). The style of the gorgeous cutouts are actually very reminiscent of Wang's (see here for the A.Wang goodness).

In love!!!
M xx

Gorgeous, gorgeous details!!!

On a sidenote, how bangin' are Ms Cushnie and Ms Ochs (the designers, of course)? Nothing better than designers who can rock their creations as well their models can.

BINGE EATING WITHOUT YOU

Ah, another start of the week (my week starts on Tuesdays)...

Tune by Flying Lotus sampling Frank Ocean. AKA a remix of Franky O's 'Thinking About You'.
I, like far too many people in this world*, regard 'Thinking About You' as one of my favourite songs but as much as I adore the mellow original, I'm definitely feeling this more beat-heavy take on the song.
I think the tempo could have been a bit slower and gotta say, I am hating Frank's voice in this (apart from his falsetto, which sounds heavenly, as always).

Enjoy,
M xx

* Note: I just mean that it's getting overhyped, not that it doesn't deserve the praise

URBAN WARRIOR

Alexander Wang RTW Spring '13 at NYFW.

We ALL know that I love Alexander Wang. We ALL know that, so before you go labelling this another post from Michelle about that same dude (same super cool genius dude from downtown New York, that is), please just look at his latest collection.

It is sick. Not sick in the 'my nose is a constant waterfall, even tissues can't help me now' kind of way, sick in the 'oh my god I'd be genuinely scared for my bank account...if I could afford any of this' kind of way. And isn't that the best possible kind of 'sick'? Rachel Zoe seems to think so.

Wang was rocking the textural athletic/futuristic vibe as he always does with some awesome metallic bomber jackets and knits, oversized parkas, strong androgynous/masculine silhouettes, as well as, lots and LOTS of leather (ooh girl, don't even get me started).

And speaking of don't even get me started, those flesh-baring cutout dresses. Wow-ing the pants off me as we speak. It's amazing how the king (totally subjective) of androgynous design can create the most amazing classy and sexy dresses to showcase the female form.

I am probably the first person to complain that pretty much the whole world is in a different season to us in Australia - meaning that while everyone everywhere else in the world is rocking cute crop tops, leather shorts and bronzed skin, I'm bundled up in a billion layers of unsexy cinnamon bun-ness (it's a Simpsons reference). SO, I'm not gonna lie, it makes me pretty freakin' happy that NYFW is featuring all the Spring '13 collections just as we go into Spring. Fuck yeah Straya! (sorry)(never again)

You rock my penniless world, Mr. Wang
M xx

Ps. Can't decide if I'm liking this Aang/The Last Airbender thing they've got going on with the hair. You know you see the resemblance.

HELLO Erin Wasson in a sexy double-split dress, you mega babe
